My name is Elena Cecil, founder of The Animal Experts and lifelong animal lover. I consider pets members of the family.
My love of animals began as a young child when I would play veterinarian with my Shepherd mix, Macky, wrapping him in toilet paper “bandages.”
Growing up here in Bozrah I used to love spending time at our neighbor’s pig and cow barns and taking horseback riding lessons.
My family always had pets; dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, fish, lizards and birds.
Once I was old enough, I bought a horse and two llamas of my own.
I obtained my Bachelor's of Science in Animal Science from the University of Connecticut.
Now that I am in my thirties and I have built a home large enough to share with my 8 dogs and my husband, Marcus. We recently welcomed a baby girl, Susan Jennifer, to our "pack".
I share the love of several dogs. Mona, my Basset Hound, Bridget, my cattle dog mix, EJ, my French Bulldog, James, my Havanese, Zoe, my Westie mix, 2 Border Collies, Oreo and Flora, and an American Bulldog mix named Stanley.
My dogs love each other and we are one big family. They love to share our home with the boarders and fosters and welcome in dogs that may have never had a home before and show them the way life should be!
Over the years some of my pets have crossed the Rainbow Bridge....they are Baby, a cinnamon Chinchilla, Nigel, a Pomeranian I rescued from the Bozrah pound, my cats, Milkdud, Pepper, and Georgia, my Pit Mix, Rex, and Franky and Monty, my llamas. Rest in peace, dear friends, until we meet again.
In addition to my love of animals, I have dedicated my life’s work and professional career to helping and caring for them.
In 1999, my childhood dream was realized when I was hired at the Norwichtown Pet Center. This experience spring-boarded me into working in animal hospitals, mobile spay/neuter clinics, pet sitting, and helping any animal in need.
I began working in my first animal hospital in 2001 and I am presently the per diem surgery technician at Preston Animal Hospital with Dr. Craig McIlquham.
I have experience in all areas of the hospital including the front desk, as a veterinary assistant, veterinary technician and now a surgery technician.
I spent over a year working in a veterinary emergency medicine facility here in Connecticut.
I also successfully place unwanted puppies and kittens in need of a 'fur'ever home as well as provide a foster home for dogs from the Anguilla Animal Rescue Foundation. Our family was recently the recipient of the 2016 AARF Superstar Award for our efforts to help the animals of Anguilla.
I am certified in Pet First Aid and CPR.
I am a certified Small Animal Massage Therapist.
I have completed training for Reiki Level 1 to practice Reiki on animals.
I have been lucky enough to realize my dream of working with animals everyday, and I hope I get the opportunity to get to know you and your pet(s).
Bri has been helping me with the animals for over 3 years. She and her mom, Steph, are avid volunteers, my go-to foster family to any dog in need and animal lovers. Thank you so much because you help make it all possible!
This is Steph and Bri's Chihuahua, Miley. She is one of their "foster failures" from Friday's Rescue.
My husband, Marcus, is a huge help here at The Animal Experts. He has a lot of experience with dogs. This is Flora and she is a Border Collie born Halloween, 2015.
Marcus is Active Duty in the U.S. Navy. Thank you for your service!
This is the newest addition to our "pack". Our daughter, Susan Jennifer, was born May 4, 2017. She is still too young to help but dogs are her favorite animal so far! They like to sniff her and it makes her laugh. She also loves meeting all the clients and their pets.
